Keeping you safe during visits to your property

18 June 2020

We continue to monitor and follow all relevant Government health advice to protect our customers, employees, and any third-party agents during the Covid-19 pandemic.   On behalf of your energy supplier, one of our engineers may need to visit your property, either to install a smart meter or to carry out some other work.

As the lockdown measures begin to ease, we thank you for your patience as we aim to re-book and complete any previously cancelled visits, as soon as possible.  Please rest assured that all field-based engineers and third-party agents will take the appropriate steps, in line with current Government guidelines, to keep you safe while attending your premises.  For example:

  • Prior to completing any pre-arranged metering work, you will be contacted in advance to ensure you are happy for the appointment to take place, and to enquire about any potentially ‘at risk’ individuals who may be present at the property.
  • Job specific risk assessments will be carried out to identify and mitigate against any potential health and safety risks.
  • Wherever possible, only one individual will attend your premises, and social distancing will be maintained at all times.
  • Individuals will carry out increased handwashing/sanitising (including always upon arriving at and leaving a site).
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be worn during visits, and any waste will be safely disposed of by the engineer after leaving the site.

If you have any questions or concerns about these health and safety measures, please contact your energy supplier in the first instance, alternatively you can get in touch with us here.

Suppliers install smart meters at no extra cost to the bill payer

Yes, however there are potential complications as some meters may lose their smart functionality. Contact your supplier for more information.

All households in the UK must be offered a smart meter from their supplier by 2020 or you can contact your supplier directly.

Energy suppliers will arrange to install the smart meter, usually through a company that specialises in smart meters.

According to Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), all smart meters have to pass the same safety regulations as any other in-house technology.

Please ensure you make your supplier aware of any renewable energy generators, as this may affect the performance of the smart meter and should be assessed prior to installation.
